Much of what is included in this volume is in the form of lists. Kunze listed the counties of Kentucky and New York, all of the townships of New York, the population of the United States by state, memorable dates in American history, the recommendations made by George Washington in his farewell address, the salaries of government officials, a record of exports from the port of Goeteborg, Sweden, and the names of ships tied up in the harbor of New York City. Kunze also included a cure for cancer, a treatment for the bite of a mad dog, and a remedy for bugs. A detailed description of Chinese worship is also featured.

John C. Kunze was born in Saxony at Artern on the Unstrut and graduated from the University of Leipzig in 1763. He came to America in 1770 to assume a pastorate in Philadelphia, Pa. under the tutelage of Henry Melchoir Muhlenberg, the patriarch of the Lutheran Church in America. In 1784, Kunze moved to New York City and served as pastor of Christ Church, located at the corner of William and Frankfort streets.
